Overview

A large global software manufacturing company partnered with Point5 in 2015 to address their evolving connectivity needs. Their primary goals included:

  • Cost Reduction: Decrease expenses associated with their global MPLS network and connectivity in general.
  • Efficiency and Modernization: Modernize their approach to Cloud and SaaS applications while improving the efficiency and manageability of their global connectivity.
  • Scalability for Growth: Streamline the onboarding of new locations to support their growth through mergers and acquisitions.

These goals stemmed from the company’s rapid expansion and a pressing need to update their connectivity and technology infrastructure to keep pace with their business growth.

Approach

We implemented a comprehensive strategy to transform their global connectivity:

  1. SD-WAN Implementation
    • Designed and deployed an SD-WAN solution to create an overlay network, enabling simplified management, enhanced visibility, and faster onboarding of new locations.
    • Transitioned from an expensive MPLS network to a cost-effective dual Internet topology combining public Internet and SD-WAN technology.
  2. Performance and Cost Optimization
    • Guaranteed high performance by using SD-WAN’s ability to dynamically select the best-performing network paths, ensuring seamless operations.
    • Delivered significant cost savings by replacing MPLS with Internet-based connectivity while maintaining the same level of network service and reliability.
  3. Vendor and Circuit Management
    • Took over the management of their underlying circuits, enabling internal staff to focus on infrastructure and core systems instead of vendor management and connectivity oversight.

Results

Our collaboration achieved the following outcomes:

  • Cost Savings: Migrated from an expensive MPLS network to a more cost-efficient model leveraging Internet-based technologies.
  • Improved Resource Allocation: Freed up internal staff to concentrate on infrastructure projects and strategic initiatives.
  • Enhanced Network Resilience: Delivered a high-performance, resilient network with improved manageability and visibility.

Conclusion

This successful project laid the foundation for a long-term partnership. Since 2015, we have continued to manage and support the company’s data, voice, and SD-WAN needs. Today, we oversee more than 100 services for the company, ensuring their connectivity infrastructure supports their ongoing growth and innovation.
